Het “Memorial Park” is gelegen op de hoek Hoofdstraat/ Houtse Parallelweg (destijds Zuid Parallelweg 1, gemeente Mierlo). De bevrijding van dit gebied was op 22 september 1944 door Britse eenheden. Het was de opmaat voor de bevrijding van Helmond, die drie dagen later op 25 september 1944 met minder dramatisch verlies een feit werd. De gekozen locatie voor het monument is gebaseerd op historische feiten n.l. daar waar de strijd het hevigst was, de omgeving van de spoorwegovergang…

In 2005 kwamen een aantal inwoners van Mierlo-Hout met het voorstel om een monument te bouwen. Er werd een comité opgericht en het plan werd besproken met de wijkraad Mierlo-Hout en later bij de afdeling kunst en cultuur van de gemeente Helmond. De realisatie van het monument liet echter nog 6 jaar op zich wachten en de uiteindelijke onthulling vond plaats in het 67e bevrijdingsjaar op 22 september 2011. Het beheer en onderhoud alsmede de organisatie van de bevrijdingsherdenkingen is nu in handen van de huidige Stichting HMMH (Herdenkingsmonument Mierlo-Hout).
The liberation of this area by British units was the prelude to the liberation of Helmond, which three days later on September 25, 1944 became a fact with less dramatic loss. The location chosen for the monument is based on historical facts where the struggle was fiercest, namely in the vicinity of the railway crossing.
In 2005 a number of residents of Mierlo-Hout came up with the proposal to build a monument. A committee was set up and the plan was discussed with the Mierlo-Hout neighborhood-council and later with the art and culture department of the municipality of Helmond.
However, the realization of the monument would take another six years and the final unveiling took place in the 67th year of liberation on September 22, 2011. The management and maintenance as well as the organization of the liberation commemorations is now in the hands of the current HMMH Foundation (Stichting Herdenkingsmonument Mierlo-Hout).
